El Hierro<\/h3>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”Small Line” line_alignment=”center” line_thickness=”3″ divider_color=”extra-color-3″ animate=”yes” custom_height=”50″][vc_column_text]\nEl Hierro is the smallest and most south-western of the Canary Islands. In its 268 km 2 it has a wide variety of landscapes, from cordate lava to areas of Monteverde with laurisilva and fayal-brezal species to Canary Island pine forests, pasture areas and expanses of tropical fruit plantations.<\/p>\n

This variety of landscapes is accompanied by the existence of microclimates, so we can assure you that whoever visits EL Hierro gets the impression of having visited a whole continent full of contrasts. The island is divided into three municipalities and has a population of around 10,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n

Valverde, its capital, is the only one of the Canary Island capitals that is not on the coast, something that was done as a strategic measure due to the continuous attacks it suffered from corsairs. El Hierro has been a Biosphere Reserve in its entirety since 2000 and a Geopark since 2012. Both of these designations speak of natural and geological values, something that is not lost on visitors to El Hierro.<\/p>\n

In recent years the island has been on the front pages of the main media not only in Spain but also abroad and even \u2018across the pond\u2019 for two very different reasons: the last volcanic eruption in Spain (2011) and the commissioning of Gorona del Viento.<\/p>\n

In the first case, it was an underwater volcanic eruption, which occurred a mile and a half from La Restinga (a fishing village at the southern tip of the island). In the case of Gorona del Viento, we are talking about the first island that is self-sufficient in renewable energy without having a \u2018cable\u2019 connection to any other territory. At the moment this self-supply is only for a few hours at a time (up to 72 hours at a time), but work continues to increase the supply of clean energy until 100% is achieved.

Download documents \u2018permits and formalities\u2019 for:<\/h4>\n[\/vc_column_text][toggles style=”default”][toggle color=”Extra-Color-3″ title=”coasts”][vc_column_text]\nShooting, filming and photographic advertising reports in coastal areas are subject to authorisation by the Canary Islands Coastal Demarcation, which is part of the Ministry of the Environment, as these are areas of maritime-terrestrial public domain.<\/p>\n

It is advisable to apply for this permit more than one month before the start of the activities, as the dossier is complemented by other reports issued by autonomous and local bodies with jurisdiction, which will have one month to issue their reports. Once the documentation provided has been examined and authorisation has been granted, the fee for occupation of the maritime-terrestrial public domain in favour of the State Administration must be paid.<\/p>\n
