Mariposas negras<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The film by canarian director David Baute and the production company Tinglado Film, Mariposas negras<\/i><\/b>, had its world premiere at the Annecy Festival, the most important in the world in the animation sector. And its national premiere at Sitges – Catalu\u00f1a International Fantastic Festival. It is a co-production with the Spanish companies Ikiru Films and Anangu Group, and the Peruvian company Tunche Films.<\/p>\n

The canarian film has been selected among more than 3,400 films received in this edition from 108 different countries to compete in the Official Contrechamp Section of the festival.<\/p>\n

The film, which has the support of the Government of the Canary Islands with a 2020 production subsidy, includes the real testimonies of three women forced to leave their homes due to climate change. This animation film is inspired by real stories, testimonies that David Baute collected for his 2020 documentary Climate Exodus<\/i><\/b>.<\/p>\n

The Undergrowth<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Macu Mach\u00edn’s feature debut, produced by El Viaje Film, had its premiere at Berlinale\u00b4s Forum section<\/a> 2024. The film has won multiple awards, both national and international, including: Award for Best Spanish Film and Best Direction of the Official ZonaZine Section of the Malaga Festival; Richard Leacock Award for Best Feature Film at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival; Best Direction of an Ibero-American Documentary Feature Film at the Guadalajara (Mexico) International Film Festival; Jury Prize for Best National Film at the Documenta Madrid International Film Festival.<\/p>\n

Mach\u00edn\u2019s film is a personal affair, with the filmmaker chronicling the routine of her mother and two aunts as they finally try to settle the distribution of their family inheritance after years of debate. In the background to the family dispute, nature seeps in, the documentary juxtaposing the lulling rhythms of the island with the eruption of long-held grievances between the sisters.<\/p>\n
