Gran Canaria is one of the islands belonging to the Canary Islands and part of the province of Las Palmas. With an area of 1560 km² and an altitude of 1956 metres, it is the third island of the Canary archipelago in extension and altitude. Inhabited by a population of around 850,000 people divided among the 21 municipalities that divide the island, Gran Canaria offers a miniature continent full of natural settings, with locations as varied and diverse as the high volcanic peaks, idyllic beaches and seabeds rich in fauna and picturesque towns. The average temperature of 22 degrees Celsius throughout the year and an excellent light quality with 4,800 hours of light per year, form a perfect subtropical climate to shoot all year.

The procedure for requesting permission to film requires the submission of the application for authorization addressed to the Coastal Peripheral Service, together with two copies in paper format and a copy in digital format of the basic project. It is also necessary to send supporting documentation of the personality of the petitioner and the appearing party and the representation in which it acts and the supporting documentation that the petitioner does not incur in any of the prohibitions of hiring planned.

You should request this permission two months before the commencement of activities, since the record is complemented by other reports issued by local and autonomous bodies with relevant powers, which will have a month to issue their reports. Once the documentation provided is examined and the authorization is granted, the fee for occupation of the maritime and terrestrial public domain in favour of the Government will be charged.

The shooting conditions can be found in the following document. The documentation will be presented in:

Explanada Tomás Quevedo s/n
Ed. Autoridad Portuaria, 4
35008 – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

It can also be faxed to (+34) 928 468 253

In Gran Canaria, there are numerous protected natural areas (ENPs) due to their fragility and natural or cultural importance. Having access to them and their use requires authorization by the Ministry of Environment of the Government of Gran Canaria.

Users and companies must respect the rules governing these areas, which prohibit free camping, delimit public use and limit traffic on the roads and tracks established. Requests for permit should be addressed to the Information Office and Citizen Attention:

Roads

Filming and shooting on roads requires authorization from the competent authorities, which may be the municipal police when sections of the highway are located in municipalities, or the Ministry of Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport of the Government de Gran Canaria, in the case of community roads.

In the latter case, the request for authorization must be submitted at least 20 days before the beginning of the activity, accompanied by the documentation which is designated in the mentioned Ministry:

Servicio de Obras Contiguas
Paseo de Tomás Morales 3, 3º y 4º
35003 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The procedures for requesting permits are conditioned by the municipality in which you want to shoot. Some of these municipalities already allow, through digital certificate, to request telematic procedures online, while others need to be presented in person. Here are the most demanded municipalities in recent years, with some details about each of them.

  • Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The filming permit applications may be submitted in person at the Society of Promotion of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or sent by email to jenny@promocionlaspalmas.com. The request must show the details of the shooting, date, duration, technical equipment, place, number of people, as well as any other relevant information for the location in which the permit is requested.

The city is divided into 5 districts. Fees are not charged for the activities of shooting, filming advertising reports and photographic activities, but they are in case you need space for blocking space for vehicle parking. In such cases, information on the vehicle will be required, requesting details about number, model and registration and the streets where they will be located, always subject to the authorisation of the local police.
