Canary Islands Film has been actively strengthening its international presence through participation in some of the most relevant industry events worldwide, including the San Sebastian International Film Festival, Marché du Film in Cannes, MIFA Annecy and MIPCOM and MIPJunior in Cannes.
At the San Sebastian Film Festival, we hosted the event “Canarias en foco”, bringing together over a hundred professionals from around the world. The session focused on the regional minority co-production grants, a funding line that in just two years has enabled Canarian companies to take part in major international films. Representatives from El Viaje Films and Mararía Films shared their experiences as minority co-producers in the films Magallanes, selected at Cannes and submitted by the Philippines for the 2026 Oscars, and Ameba, premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. The event also included the participation of key public regional institutions, highlighting the collaborative strategy driving the growth of the Canarian audiovisual sector.
Earlier this year, we also took part in Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival, within the Cinema from Spain pavilion. The Canarian delegation held meetings with international professionals to showcase the archipelago’s locations, incentives, and talent, with the participation of several production and service companies such as Fixer Canary Islands, Bendita Film Sales, Sur Film, Seven Islands, Tourmalet Films, Aluzine Rental, El Viaje and Volcano Films.
The presence in Annecy, at the renowned MIFA market, further strengthened the visibility of the Canarian animation industry. Under the Canary Islands Animation brand, representatives of Proexca, ZEC, Tenerife and Gran Canaria Film Commissions, along with the Audiovisual Cluster and local studios, promoted the islands’ growing animation ecosystem —a sector that today counts around twenty active studios and over 1,500 direct jobs. The networking session attracted around forty international companies interested in exploring collaboration opportunities with the Canary Islands as a global animation hub.
Lastly, the Canary Islands delegation also attended MIPCOM and MIPJunior, two of the world’s leading television and entertainment content markets. Companies such as Amuse Studios, Ánima Kitchent Canarias, Atlantis Animation and Locationow took part to explore new co-production, distribution and financing opportunities, reinforcing the international positioning of the Canarian audiovisual industry.
Through these participations, Canary Islands Film continues to consolidate the islands’ role as a strategic hub for international production and co-production, promoting the growth, diversification and global projection of the Canarian audiovisual sector.
