Major international producers visit the Canary Islands

A dozen production companies from the United States and Europe, including Amazon, Universal Studios, and Legendary, visited our archipelago last week, specifically La Palma, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife, being one of the main attractions of the Shooting Locations Marketplace initiative.

The tour, promoted by the Canary Islands Government through Canary Islands Film, with the collaboration of Proexca, began in La Palma, visiting some of the island’s most representative enclaves on an itinerary that highlighted its landscape diversity.

Under the coordination of the Palma Film Commission, these professionals visited Roque de Los Muchachos and its astronomical observatory, with its impressive views; the contrast between the laurel forest and the volcanic coast, as well as a tour of the fishing village of Villa de Mazo in a buggy; the Los Tilos forest, where they took a short tour and had a picnic next to the waterfall; and Santa Cruz de La Palma, with its history and colonial architecture.

The visit continued in Gran Canaria, under the coordination of the Gran Canaria Film Commission, which hosted a industry meet-and-greet at INFECAR and the technical tour of Gran Canaria Platós. The stop included a demo of the venue’s XR Virtual Studio (horseshoe LED volume with real-time camera tracking), and a compact, location-dense route through San Cristóbal, El Risco, Vegueta, Finca de Osorio, Agaete, Arucas Cathedral, Tufia, Mogán and the Maspalomas dunes. Together, it gave visiting studios a clear read on stage capacity, virtual production workflows and fast-switching looks, period streets, rural interiors, coastal villages and desert scenery, in a single stop.

To round out the production picture, the delegation also engaged with key Gran Canaria service and production outfits, illustrating an end-to-end ecosystem for international shoots.

Coordinated by the Tenerife Film Commission, the last stop of the tour took place in Tenerife, during which they visited a wide selection of natural and urban locations, as well as meeting with professionals from the local audiovisual sector.

The program included visits to Teide National Park, the historic center of La Laguna, the Tenerife Auditorium, Las Teresitas beach, and Porís de Abona, among other popular filming locations. At the same time, around twenty local companies were able to present their services and projects to international representatives, strengthening cooperation between the local sector and major studios.
