Canarias en Corto is the Canary Islands Government’s programme for the dissemination and distribution of short films, managed by the audiovisual unit – Canary Islands Film – of the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development.

Within the framework of this programme, one of the oldest and most emblematic of the public company, since its first edition was held in 2006, up to seven short films by Canarian authors are selected each year through a competitive public call for entries. The aim of this selection is to be distributed at the most important festivals, exhibitions and short film competitions on the national and international scene.

The selection is made by an external committee, made up of national and international experts in the production, distribution and programming of short films.

The support model has varied over the years, adapting to the evolution of the audiovisual industry, until reaching the current model, launched for the first time with the 2021 catalogue, the fifteenth edition of the programme. The Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development is responsible for the dissemination of the selected short films, organises screenings, acts as an intermediary for exhibition actions and also financially supports their distribution, which is in the hands of the specialised company chosen by each participant.
