
The Creative Documentary Development Lab, CreaDoc supports since 2011 the development of documentaries from the Canary Islands. It offers a personalized mentorship program for projects to strengthen their narratives and prepare them for the international market. The lab is organized by Canary Islands Film, together with Miradas Afroindígenas International Documentary Cinema Festival, and it is coordinated by filmmakers Rolando Díaz and Domingo de Luis.

CreaDoc 2026–2027: the lab opened its new call for applications this month, selecting 6 projects to support their development and expansion. More information about the call here.
CreaDoc 2025–2026: the initiative took place through three sessions. The first one was held within FICMEC, the second virtually, and the third and final one within the Afroindigenas Film Festival and Market. In its 13th edition, 3 projects were s elected in the Opera Prima Line: Isleteñas: La película, by Carolina Déniz Pérez; Otoo, superself, by Guillermo Gómez Moreno; and Señores de Ruiz, by Raquel Herrera Hernández; and 3 more in the Professional Line: La Tempestad, by Fernando García-Moreno Alcántara; La Bodeguita, by Julio Javier Díaz Hernández; and Buscando a Raquel, by Dácil Manrique de Lara Millares.
Some projects that have emerged from the lab
Sometimes Love (2020), by José Víctor Fuentes, was the Canary Islands project selected as the winner at the MiradasDoc Pitching in 2018 and later competed in the national section of the same festival in 2021. La Berma, by Agustín Domínguez, received the DocsMx Award at the Pitching during the 2021 edition of MiradasDoc.
Another example is In Search of the Oscar (2018) by Octavio Guerra, which later won the MiradasDoc Award at the Pitching and went on to achieve an unstoppable series of recognitions at both national and international levels.
Other projects that passed through CreaDoc include El mapa para tocarte by Mercedes Afonso (Silver Biznaga at the 2026 Málaga Film Festival); or Macu Machín’s La Hojarasca (The Undergrowth), premiered at Berlinale, Best Spanish Film and Best Director in the ZonaZine Official Selection at Málaga, and nominated for the Feroz Awards.
