The Gran Canaria Platós XR Virtual Studio is now operational, marking a major step forward for the island’s audiovisual sector. The new facility features a 40-meter-high horseshoe-shaped LED screen, complemented by several high-resolution mobile LED panels. The studio incorporates camera tracking systems and offers real-time virtual production workflows, with technology developed in collaboration with ROE Visual, Video Cine Import and ARRI.
The project has involved an investment of €5.8 million, financed by the Gran Canaria Island Council and Red.es, with support from the Next Generation EU funds. It aims to reinforce the audiovisual industry as a key sector for economic diversification on the island.
In addition to the new XR Studio, Gran Canaria Platós also offers two soundstages of 1,800 and 1,200 square meters. The complex includes a digital laboratory designed to provide training in animation, video games and digital production. As part of the launch, an intensive two-day virtual production course was held at the facilities.
The XR Studio is ready to support film, television, advertising and events projects.
