Subsidies for audiovisual productions in the Canary Islands

Last December, the final resolution on subsidies for audiovisual productions in the Canary Islands was issued.

On the one hand, grants for the development of feature films, series, and documentaries, and for the production of short films, for which a total of 85 fiction, animation and documentary projects were submitted. Of the 48 projects submitted in the development category, 12 projects were awarded grants, all of them feature films. In the short film production category, 9 shorts were selected from the 38 submitted.

On the other hand, a total of 34 projects were submitted to the minority production and co-production call, of which fourteen were ultimately selected. These include fiction, animation, and documentary films, many of them focused on Canarian themes. A total of €2,280,000 will be distributed, with amounts ranging from €79,000 to €225,000 for each project. Projects will have until 2027 to finalize their proposals, and may receive the funds in advance in installments. In the production category (which may include co-productions in which the Canarian contribution is significant in creative and management terms), 24 projects were submitted, of which eight were selected. A total of ten projects were submitted to the minority co-production category, of which six are receiving funding.
